Frankensong |
The Internet's most grotesque songwriting challenge |
The teams have been chosen by our captains! The order these songwriters will be recording in was picked at random.
TEAM 1 (Captain = Denise Hudson)
Bryce Jensen
Bryce Jensen has been writing songs off and on for about twenty five years, but he has shared only a few of them beyond his friends and family. He took part in the Masters of Song Fu songwriting contest and, more recently, did a shadow song for the first SpinTunes competition. His styles range from a cappella to heavy metal with a lot of wimpy finger picking stuff in between. Even though Bryce has written hundreds of songs and instrumentals, he has done barely any collaborating, so he is very excited to have the opportunity to take part in this crazy experiment.
Bryce will be recording first on Team 1 - Recording due Jan. 16th
Graham Porter
Under the guise of Emperor Gum, I pioneer Moth Rock; an intangible musical concept I have yet to untangle. The rest of the time I just like to make orangised (and occasionally disorganised) sounds with whatever makes a noise.
Graham will be recording second on Team 1 - Recording due Jan. 23rd
Bram Tant
Bram Tant is a 21 year old Belgian who likes to make music in his spare time and wouldn’t mind making money doing this as a real job sometime in the future. Since that’s not likely to happen anytime soon, he just continues making music in his spare time.
Bram will be recording third on Team 1 - Recording due Jan. 30th
Joe Covenant
Joe is an old, old man who has been in some online contests…
Joe will be recording fourth on Team 1 - Recording due Feb. 6th
Denise Hudson
Hailing from Xondor, this piano-toting slinger of songs is not taking no for a sweater. Den can write in her sleep, and frequently does, and her music has been described as “balmy.” She has a softer side, but she’s a lady, so she doesn’t have to talk about it. Forever almost winning things, she hopes to someday cut the mustard with the sharp spoon of half-truth. She’s been everywhere, man, but don’t you really just wanna hear about the iguana? Yeeaaah… you know you do …. ;)
Denise will be recording fifth on Team 1 - Recording due Feb. 13th
TEAM 2 (Captain = Reese Mankenberg)
Ryan Ruff Smith
Ryan Ruff Smith is a songwriter and musician from Minneapolis, MN. He writes for and plays in a retro pop group called Spencer McGillicutty and is currently starting work on his first official solo album.

Matt Schubbe
A consummate DIY musician, Matt has some formal training in voice and piano but prefers to throw most of that out the window in favor of what sounds good. He can also blow a mean trumpet and whistle quite convincingly.
Matt will be recording second on Team 2 - Recording due Jan. 23rd
Robert Carmichael
Drummer. Came from a long line of drummers; both father and grandfather played drums. Also plays guitar and piano. But not very well. Musically affiliated with Charlie McCarron, Matt Schubbe, & Andy Price. Played in band with formerly mentioned people; it had many names. Also likes to write. Is writing a novel, hopes to publish it. When writing bio’s, likes to write them in short fragments. If haven’t noticed.
Robert will be recording third on Team 2 - Recording due Jan. 30th
Stripes on Stripes
Stripes on Stripes started as a folk-pop co-ed duo composed of Jessica Scherer and Peter Lund under the name Color by Number. They began their performing career at an open mic night at St. John’s University. They played a 25 min set and went on at Midnight right as Peter got back from a choir concert, and the night before Jessica’s senior piano recital. The band developed into more of an alternative pop/rock/electronic/something else group and added more members (Laura Bebo and Sarah Vanneste) and Stripes on Stripes was born.

Reese Mankenberg
I’m a 24-year-old man teaching English in South Korea. I’ve been playing music for about 10 years. I’ve played guitar, bass, and mandolin in a few different bands, but recently I’ve been dabbling in electronic music and hip-hop.
Reese will be recording fifth on Team 2 - Recording due Feb. 13th
TEAM 3 (Captain = Boffo Yux Dudes)
Chris Cogott
Chris has been playing music for several years solo and in many bands. He mainly plays the guitar and tries his best at other instruments. He was recently the runner up in the Spintunes 2 songwriting competition. Before that, he has placed well in Nur Ein 5 and has won the first White Elephant song challenge. Looking forward to the Frankensong Challenge!
Chris will be recording first on Team 3 - Recording due Jan. 16th
Gorbzilla
After taking part in Song Fu and Spin Tunes, Gorbzilla is looking for other arenas upon which to wreak his special brand of havoc, which is just another way of saying he needs something else to do. He is busy with his teaching gig, playing in Jimmy Likes Pie, and being a husband and father, plus with the added discovery of Netflix’s “watch instantly” option he has decided that sleep will no longer fit his schedule. Enjoy your burrito!
Gorbzilla will be recording second on Team 3 - Recording due Jan. 23rd (switched with Kevin Savino-Riker)
Kevin Savino-Riker

Jason P. Schumacher
Jason is an independent filmmaker and photographer. He recently completed a a feature film called The Telephone Game, that utilizes improvisation to explore the chaotic world of theater.
Jason will be recording fourth on Team 3 - Recording due Feb. 6th
Boffo Yux Dudes
The Boffo Yux Dudes have been put together and torn apart so much, we feel like Silly Putty some days. The 2010 version of BYD consists of Tom Giarrosso and Allan Morgan with the occasional co-conspiritors, attempting the long distance high-wire by collaborating 1000 miles apart from each other. Since our days harassing the Dr. Demento Show in the mid 80’s, to our nationwide presence on hundreds of radio stations daily in the 90’s, we now bring to you in 2010 to our total domination of the internet, one person at a time. We should be through the G’s by early 2016.
The Boffo Yux Dudes will be recording fifth on Team 3 - Recording due Feb. 13th
TEAM 4 (Captain = Edric Haleen)
Edric Haleen
Edric likes writing songs, even though they’re often different than others may have been expecting at first listen. Care to know more? Check out the link below to visit his website. (Also, please consider checking out http://happinessboard.com to see — and add to — the Happiness Board! Guaranteed to put a smile on your face, or your money back!)
Edric will be recording first on Team 4 - Recording due Jan. 16th
JoAnn Abbott
I got my musical feet wet this past summer in writing songs for the Spin Tunes challenge, continued through the SpinTunes 2 and Edric’s SongCycle, and have shadowed everything thus far. I am still learning how to record things properly, but with the help of Caleb Hines have been getting better at producing listenable songs. Maybe someday I will learn to read music, or play an instrument…
JoAnn will be recording second on Team 4 - Recording due Jan. 23rd
The Offhand Band
The Offhand Band makes satisfying songs for people big and small. Hopping from one style to the next, the OHB’s catchy choruses are cool for kids, fun for families and even great for the grown on their own. The debut album, “Everyone’s Invited,” is available on CD and MP3. The Offhand Band is the creation of Mark S. Meritt, a musician, writer and armchair scientist who’s just trying to spread a little harmony. He offers music, arts and creativity services through potluckcreativearts.com.
The Offhand Band will be recording third on Team 4 - Recording due Jan. 30th
Gweebol
Gweebol is a musician in Minnesota. She loves grounded outlets, chimneys, and chutney.
Gweebol will be recording fourth on Team 4 - Recording due Feb. 6th
TEAM 5 (Captain = Brett Thompson)
Brett Thompson
This dude loves tunes like Garfield likes lasagna. And also dislikes Mondays. He’s always looking to learn new things about music, whether it’s an instrument or a progression, so feel free to share!
Brett will be recording first on Team 5 - Recording due Jan. 16th
Matt Mahler
I have very limited music recording experience, and you should fear the potential destruction I could reap on this project. I’m also an optimist.
Matt will be recording second on Team 5 - Recording due Jan. 23rd
Nick Syman

I am formerly of the band “awayfromcaves” who came out with an otherworldly LP: “The Dynamic Atom.” I also spend time playing bass for GracePoint Church in New Brighton, MN. I am a user experience designer at a software company in Minnetonka, MN. I also enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, Sheila, and my two kids Ethan and Lacey.
